Carleton Set to Host 135th Commencement, Alumni Reunion

June 8, 2009

Two major annual Carleton College events are set for the coming weekends that will bring a large number of out-of-town visitors to our campus.

The College will celebrate its 135th Commencement on Saturday, June 13, 2009. Approximately 500 members of the class of 2009 will receive their diplomas in front of family, friends and faculty members on the lawn west of Hulings Hall. In case of severe weather, the ceremony will be held indoors at the Recreation Center. The College realizes that a large number of those attending the ceremony park their cars in the neighborhoods adjacent to the College, and we thank our neighbors for their understanding during this most important of weekend for our students and their families.

The following weekend, June 18-21, is our annual Alumni Reunion Weekend. The weekend kicks off in great style with the “Taste of Northfield,” so our alumni can enjoy our wonderful community and downtown, complete with a special re-enactment of the First National Bank Raid by the James-Younger Gang. There will be a Carleton “Welcome Tent” at Bridge Square, and we hope that community can come out as well and enjoy our great downtown area and the bank raid.

Another event during Reunion Weekend that community members can enjoy is a special fireworks display on Friday, June 19, beginning around 10 p.m.

The College certainly appreciates Northfield’s support of these two major events.
