Carleton College recently announced that the proceeds raised from their ninth annual “Lighten-Up” Garage Sale totaled over $23,000 in support of area non-profit organizations. The proceeds will be split evenly between the Northfield Union of Youth (The Key), the Northfield Special Olympics, and Project Friendship.
This popular event, sponsored by Acting in the Community Together (ACT), the College’s center for community service and civic engagement, was held Thursday and Friday, June 18 and 19. The annual sale featured over 75,000 items, including clothing, linens, books, electronics, furniture, kitchenware, sports equipment, and other miscellaneous items donated by Carleton students following their dorm room clean-ups. This year students were also encouraged to donate unopened non-perishable foods, to be donated directly to the Northfield Area Food Shelf.
