Minority Representation in American Politics
Nazita Lajevardi will present “Minority Representation in American Politics: The Role of Race in the Voting Booth.” She is a PhD candidate at the University of California, San Diego. Her research focuses on the intersection between political institutions and political behavior, specifically understanding how the discrimination of racialized minority groups impacts their representation in America’s political system and affects the sociopolitical behaviors and attitudes of political elites and mass publics. Her dissertation is motivated by a current puzzle in REP research: What is the status of Muslim Americans in American democracy?
