Ross presents paper in Poland
September 1, 2010Ross Elfline, Assistant Professor of Art History attended the biennial conference for the European Network for Avant-Garde and Modernism Studies (EAM) from September 9-11, 2010. There he presented a paper entitled "Discotheques, Magazines and Plexiglas: Superstudio and the Architecture of Mass Culture," in which he looked at the furniture and magazine collage works of the 1960s Italian architecture collective Superstudio, who are infamous for never having built a single building.
Alison leads workshop in Netherlands
June 7, 2010Alison M. Kettering, Kenan Professor of Art History, led a workshop on "Studio Scenes in Netherlandish Art" at the Historians of Netherlandish Art conference in Amsterdam on May 29, 2010. She also presented "Market Tables" (small group discussions) to museum professionals interested in e-publishing at an international conference of curators of Low Lands art, Codart, in Rotterdam on May 31, 2010.
Laurel Bradley chairs discussion

Or what do you gain when aligning more closely with the curriculum (and what do you lose)?" at the annual Association of College and University Museums and Galleries meeting at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.

Katie presents at Oberlin
May 3, 2010Kathleen Ryor, professor of Art History, was invited by the Department of Art and Art History at Oberlin College to give a lecture on her research in April. Her talk was entitled, "The Painter as Knight-Errant: Xu Wei and Alternative Artistic Personas in the Late Ming."
Lloyd's work on display at Smithsonian
April 26, 2010Tim Lloyd, Class of 1941 Professor of Art and the Liberal Arts, Emeritus, has learned that his sterling silver tea pot, recently acquired by the Smithsonian, is now on exhibit in the second floor gallery of the Renwick. The piece, “Kitano Fantasy” is being shown with other craft work from the Smithsonian American Art Museum Renwick Gallery’s permanent collection.

Minnesota Women Ceramic Artists Exhibition includes Kelly's work
March 8, 2010Assistant Professor of Art, was recently invited to participate in The Minnesota Women Ceramic Artists Exhibition in Minneapolis. A review of the exhibition, including a photograph of one of Connole's pieces, appears in the March issue of Ceramics Monthly magazine.
