Perlman Teaching Museum
This new Teaching Museum and Art Gallery, in the Weitz Center for Creativity, opened in Fall 2011. It exhibits works from the College's collection, traveling exhibitions, and shows curated by Carleton students, faculty, and staff. The Museum also hosts the annual Studio Art comps show.
Minneapolis Institute of Arts
Minneapolis Institute of Arts, 2400 Third Avenue S., Minneapolis
The MIA is considered one of the nation's outstanding art museums. Its encyclopedic collections feature everything from the art and artifacts of the ancient world to today's photography, with special strength in European, American, and Chinese art. The original McKim, Mead, and White building was recently expanded by a new wing designed by Michael Graves. So valuable is the MIA as a resource that faculty members lead one or more field trips there each term.
Walker Art Center
Walker Art Center, 1750 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis
Considered one of the nation's most important museums for modern and contemporary art, including new media and design, the Walker also offers a strong performing arts program. The new addition of 2005, designed by Herzog and de Meuron, doubled the museum space. The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is located across the street. In addition to taking students to the museum on course-connected field trips, the department also organizes buses to the Walker for lectures and performances.
Weisman Art Museum
University of Minnesota, 333 E.River Rd, Minneapolis
Housed in a striking stainless steel building designed by Frank Gehry, the Weisman is the teaching museum of the University of Minnesota, with a permanent collection of 20th and 21st century art, and frequent changing exhibitions.
Mpls Photo Center

The Mpls Photo Center is where photo professionals and enthusiasts alike come together to work and learn, to discover and experience, to create, exhibit and become members of this unique community dedicated to photography and all its media and processes.
Northern Clay Center
2424 E.Franklin Ave, Minneapolis
The Center offers frequent exhibitions by contemporary regional, national and international ceramic artists, as well as historical and architectural ceramics; classes and workshops for children and adults at all skill levels; studio space and grants for artists; and a sales gallery representing many top ceramic artists from the region and elsewhere.
Minnesota Center for Book Arts
1011 Washington Avenue South, Minneapolis
This is the largest, most comprehensive book arts center in the nation, featuring displays of letterpress printing, bookbinding, papermaking and books as contemporary art forms.
The Soap Factory
514 2nd St. SE, Minneapolis
No Name Exhibitions @ The Soap Factory was founded in 1988 by a small group of artists (with "no name") as one of the first venues in the twin cities of Minneapolis and St Paul devoted to emerging visual art. Throughout its history, No Name Exhibitions has filled a crucial niche in this vital regional arts community by providing a supportive environment for artists who are at the beginning of their careers or who are exploring new genres of expression.
The Soap Factory is a laboratory for artistic experimentation and innovation, dedicated to supporting artists and engaging audiences through the production and presentation of contemporary art in a unique and historic environment.
