Internship - Walt Disney World

The Agricultural Sciences team is looking for college students and recent graduates (within 6 months of Bachelors degree) to participate in our fun and challenging six-month internship in several different agricultural and science education fields.
Attached to this message is a one-page flyer about the internships we offer in plant science, entomology, biotechnology, and aquaculture. We’d like to ask for your assistance in posting this flyer in a place where potentially interested students will see it and/or share it. Please feel free to also share it with your fellow professors and faculty. We are currently looking for students to fill internships for the Fall 2011 (mid-June 2011 – early January 2012) and the Spring 2012 terms (late-December 2011 to late-June 2012).

Sanford Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR)
January 3, 2011 at 9:57 amSPUR is a ten week summer internship program aimed at encouraging talented biology, biochemistry, and chemistry majors towards careers in laboratory research. Program participants will work under the close guidance of a Sanford Research or Augustana College principle investigator on a project in the mentor’s lab, either at the Sanford Center and/or Augustana campus in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The program also includes a weekly seminar series, which consists of presentations given by Sanford Scientists about their current research, a workshop on ethics in scientific research, and a graduate student panel discussion about the graduate school application process. Interns will be expected to present a short project proposal at the beginning of the program and a poster at a symposium at the conclusion of the program. Students are paid a weekly stipend and housed free-of-charge at Augustana College.
Ten participants for the summer 2011 will be selected based upon the following criteria:
• Academic accomplishments based upon GPA and transcripts
• Their capacity to participate in the program based upon two letters of reference
• An apparent interest in pursuing a Ph.D., rather than an M.D.
• Enthusiasm for laboratory research

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Stream Habitat Program
*Positions for up to 9 student interns are anticipated
Position Description:
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources may be filling up to 9 student
intern positions to assist with mussel surveys, monitoring, host identification, and propagation of
endangered species. Positions will be based in St. Paul or Lake City, Minnesota, but will travel
statewide. Start date is somewhat flexible, but is expected to begin by May 16, or soon thereafter, and
continue to at least August 26 (POSSIBLY extending through mid October).
Duties include (but are not limited to)
:
-Diving in large rivers such as the Mississippi and St. Croix
-Sample mussels in streams, rivers and lakes while snorkeling or diving
-Quantitatively sample mussel beds to establish long-term monitoring stations
-Assist with endangered mussel propagation and reintroduction activities
-Assist with mussel host identification studies
-Collect and maintain live native fishes
-Operate GPS receiver and light microscope
-Maintain and organize field and SCUBA equipment
-Prepare and label voucher specimens
-Operate state vehicle; tow and launch boat
Required Qualifications:
SCUBA certification
and
Class
D Driver’s License
or equivalent are
required. Student interns must be enrolled in a degree seeking biology (or related) program.
Preferred Qualifications:
Responsible, Self motivated, Excitement for biology.
Working Conditions:
Positions are based out of St. Paul or Lake City. Workweek is usually M-Th or M-F
and some weekends, but could extend for up to an 8-day stretch on occasion. Should be comfortable in
the water and be prepared to work long hours (sometimes in uncomfortably cool water temperatures) in
a variety of field and weather conditions. Must work well with others for long periods, requires travel
throughout the state of Minnesota, and frequently involves staying in motels. Interns are responsible for
their own housing and living expenses. However, lodging costs for overnight stays while traveling for
work will be paid by the DNR, and meal expenses during those periods will be reimbursed. SCUBA
equipment and wetsuits will be supplied by the DNR.
Wage:
$10.00/hour (40 hours/week)
