  • Research Experience in Pathology, University of Alabama
  • University of Cincinnati - research opportunities in a variety of cell and molecular areas
  • Fordham University - Live at Field station (free)
  • Summer undergraduate research opportunities in plant ecology are available in the laboratory of Dr. David Eissenstat at the Pennsylvania State University. Research projects vary from plant water relations to investigations of root form and function. Students will have the opportunity to conduct independent research while contributing to the larger research goals of the projects. We are offering a stipend to cover travel and living expenses. Additionally, there is an opportunity for international travel. Interested students should send a cover letter, resume, and three letters of reference to: Tom Adams Department of Horticulture Pennsylvania State University 107 Tyson Bldg. • Internship at Carleton College Gain experience working on an agroecology research project at Carleton College. The project focuses on field trials evaluating organic tactics for management of diseases, insect pests, and weeds of vegetables. In addition there will be work examining the behavior of cucumber beetles, the major pest of muskmelons. Experiments will be conducted at Big Woods Farm, an organic vegetable farm operated by Carleton professor David Hougen-Eitzman. Interns participate in planting, weeding, scouting, downloading weather instruments, rating pest damage, and harvesting. They will assist with data collection for other experiments. Also, interns can incorporate an independent research project in their experience if desired. Needed:Valid driver's license and access to a car. Carleton students who have completed freshman, sophomore, or junior years are eligible. Internship at Iowa State Univeristy Gain experience in working on a diverse array of agroecology research projects atIowa State University during summer 2004. The projects focus on field trials evaluating organic, sustainable, and minimal-pesticide tactics for management of diseases, insect pests, and weeds of muskmelons and apples. Both replicated experiments at university farms and cooperative trials on the farms of commercial fruit and vegetable growers are included. Interns participate in planting, weeding, scouting, downloading weather instruments, rating pest damage, and harvesting. They can also take part in weekly meetings with plant pathology researchers and graduate students that emphasize sharpening scientific writing and experimental design skills. In addition, interns can incorporate an independent research project in their experience if desired. A Carleton biology major who interned in the program several years ago developed a first-authored manuscript that was published in a refereed research journal. Needed:Valid driver's license. Carleton students who have completed freshman, sophomore, or junior years are eligible. Work period extends from after graduation until early to mid-September.
