Cinema and Media Studies (CAMS)

CAMS is devoted to the interdisciplinary study of film, radio, television, and the Internet.  Courses focus on the histories and theories of photochemical, electronic, and digital media in addition to providing hands-on experience in digital video and audio production, screenwriting, digital photography and graphic design.

Can I major in it?  Yes, indeed, you can major in CAMS at Carleton.

Topics explored: Hollywood and international cinema, media genres and modes, television and radio history, major film directors, avant-garde and independent cinema, digital art, visual culture, the personal media revolution, storytelling structures, screenwriting, fiction and nonfiction video and audio production, digital photography, website design and production.

How to get started: Recommended courses for first-year students considering a CAMS major are CAMS 110: Introduction to Cinema & Media Studies and CAMS 111: Digital Foundations.   These courses are offered multiple terms each year.
