Guide for New Students

Cognitive Science (CGSC)

Director: Professor Kathleen Galotti

Cognitive Science examines different approaches to questions concerning the nature of the mind, the representation of knowledge, the acquisition, comprehension, and production of language, the development of learning and intelligence, the use of information to draw inferences and make decisions, and the assessment of "goodness of fit" between purportedly similar systems. This program is open to all students but designed for those majoring in psychology, philosophy, computer science, or linguistics.

Can I major in it? A concentration in Cognitive Science is available.

Topics explored: Artificial intelligence, language, logic, reasoning, and neuroscience.

How to get started: Interested students should take CGSC 130: Introduction to Cognitive Science.
