Please make a point, also, of welcoming Dave Alberg and Gretchen Hofmeister back into the department, after their yearlong sabbatical in Aarhus, Denmark. We’re all glad to have them back in the department. Michael Burand will also be with us for Winter and Spring Terms this year, but will be away during the Fall. And just to keep everyone on their toes, some office juggling has occurred. You can find the chemistry faculty in these offices:

In other news, the Chemistry Department will be interviewing candidates this Fall Term for a position in our department, so stay tuned for detailed information about opportunities for you to interact with the candidates and give us your input into the process.
I hope you all enjoy a productive and successful year!
Chemistry Kick-off
Please join chemistry faculty and students to welcome our new majors and to hear about some exciting things happening in the department this year. There will be cookies, tea, hot chocolate, and opportunities to bond. Hope to see you there. Olin 04, 3:10 p.m. (6a), Friday, September 18.
Looking for a Part-Time Job?
Northfield’s Econofoods is looking for several pharmacy technicians. No experience is required as they train at the store. The positions available all are part-time; daytime, evening and weekend. Their hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. M-F; 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday; and 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
They are flexible and will work around your school studies and extracurricular activities. They provide lab jackets and fancy name tags. The technician is very important to the success of the pharmacy, and should enjoy working in a team environment. The technician will interact with doctors and nurses in local offices, as well as their customers in person and on the phone. Computer skills are needed, however, they will train you on their pharmacy computer system, QS1. Stop by and pick up an application either from the service desk in the front of the store or the pharmacy itself.

Mayo Innovation Scholars Program
Mayo has an internship opportunity for a team of Carleton students to work with Licensing Managers at the Mayo Office of Intellectual Property. The Carleton team of students (two science and two Econ) will work with an MBA student from St. Thomas or Augsburg to determine market viability of a research project. The internship culminates with a presentation of the team’s findings at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Additional information about the program is available at http://apps.carleton.edu/campus/career/jobs_opportunities/internships/find/Mayo/.
The deadline to apply for this opportunity is Thursday, October 1, 2009. Interested students should submit application materials electronically via The Tunnel - https://login.carleton.edu/idp/Authn/UserPassword.
Once in the system, students will need to upload their resume and letter to the “Documents” section of their Tunnel account. After uploading the documents, select “Employers”, then enter “Carleton Career Center” in the keyword field. The Mayo Innovation Scholars Program information will pop-up. Follow the prompts to complete the application submission process. Please contact Mike Hendel in the Career Center with any questions.
