Interested in Graduate School?

See the attached for information about a Council on Undergraduate Research Registry of Undergraduate Researchers. The purpose of this registry is to facilitate matchmaking between undergraduates who have research experience and a desire to pursue an advanced degree, with graduate schools seeking high quality students who are well prepared for research. Any undergraduate may go to www.cur.org/ugreg/ to fill out a simple curriculum vitae form. There is no charge to the student and records will be made available to bona fide Graduate Schools that contract with CUR for this service.

Candidate Talk

This seminar will be given by a candidate for our tenure-track position in chemistry. Prior to the seminar, students will receive an email that contains more information about this seminar.

No Periodic Table This Week

There will not be a Periodic Table this week because we have a candidate here for our tenure-track position. Instead, you’re invited to have lunch with him at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, in the East Dining Hall Class of '51 room (fireplace room). Meet in the chemistry hallway or join the group there. If you are off board, the department will cover your lunch.

Location Change for the Academic Support Center “Speakeasy”

The “Speakeasy” is moving to the Library! It’ll be on the 3rd floor near the computer lab and the Career Center satellite office. If you’re interested in any kind of public speaking help--debates, powerpoints, presentations, comps, whatever--you’re more than welcome to drop by Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday evenings, or make an appointment by emailing Jon “The Speakeasy” Fraser at fraserj@carleton.edu.

Urban Education Postgraduate Opportunity

MATCH Corps, an urban education service year at the MATCH School in Boston, MA, is looking for chemistry majors to TA their chemistry classes. The MATCH school employs 40 recent college graduates to live in the school in a dorm-style residence in both their Middle School and High School. For one academic year they meet with five students, paired with them at the beginning of the year, and tutor them every day one-on-one in their classroom subjects; they coach sports; they run clubs. For more information, see the attached.
