Designing Azaindole Ligands for the Development of Anti-Tumor Transition Metal Complexes
The goal of this research is to prepare a series of 7-azaindole based ligands for the development of potential anti-tumor platinum(II) complexes. The ligands are prepared through copper iodide-mediated cross coupling reactions of the azaindole ligands with racemic trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane. X-Ray quality crystals of 2-bromo-6-(azaindole)pyridine [1], a key synthetic intermediate, were grown from a solution 1:1 CH2Cl2/hexane. Investigations of the synthesis and characterization of 2-pyrazyl-6-(azaindole)pyridine [2], 3,5-dimethylpyrazyl-6-(azaindole)pyridine [3], and 2-bromo-6-(pyrazole)pyridine [4] are currently ongoing. We have also investigated the synthesis, characterization and cytotoxic potency of [Pt(BAP)Cl]+(5; BAP = 2,6-bis(azaindole)pyridine). The cytotoxic potency of 5 in human colorectal carcinoma (RKO) cells will be discussed.
