SENIOR SEMINAR

Classics 394 is a seminar all seniors in the Classics department must take that meets once a week in the fall. The course serves as the starting point for the seniors’ “comps” experience. Based on a common reading that is completed over the summer, students will draft a call for papers to the annual Senior Symposium held in Winter term (the Saturday after mid-term break) on a specific theme decided on by the students with faculty approval. Once the call for papers has been drafted, each senior needs to submit a successful proposal, in abstract form, by the ninth week of the term for a talk to be delivered at the symposium. To that end, students work on their individual research projects through the rest of the term, with weekly feedback on their progress from classmates and faculty. The aim is to have students ready to complete their talks in the first half of the Winter term, and to be poised to revise their talks into an article that they will contribute to a journal to be published at the end of Winter term.
