Money Available for Research Away From Carleton
Carleton has a new program to provide support for students doing research off-campus during summer or winter breaks. The Kolenkow/Reitz Fund will support at least three students in the natural sciences and mathematics in 2008, with each student receiving funds not to exceed a typical summer research stipend at Carleton ($420 per week, for no more than 10 weeks). Funding is available to Carleton international students. Support could take the form of a stipend, travel funds, housing, etc., and it could be used to supplement financial support offered by a sponsor at another institution if the student demonstrates that the sponsor’s contribution is insufficient. If interested, submit an application by February 14, identifying a sponsor at another institution, a brief description of research plans and your specific role, and a budget paragraph justifying requested funds. Decisions about funding will be made by April 1st. For more information, visit the website for the Robert J. Kolenkow and Robert A. Reitz Fund.

CRA-W and CDC Summer Research Internships
The CRA-W (Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research) and the CDC (Coalition to Diversify Computing) have each announced their Distributed Mentor Programs. The CRA-W program seeks to increase the number of women entering graduate studies in computer science and engineering, while the CDC program seeks to increase the number of men and women from underrepresented groups entering graduate studies in the fields of computer science and engineering. The deadline for application is February 15. Visit the combined program website for more information.
