Summer Research Opportunity
The National Suborbital Education and Research Center will be launching on behalf of NASA a six-week research program from July-August 2009. The program offers advanced undergraduate and early graduate students the opportunity to engage in hands-on Earth system science research using NASA's DC-8 flying laboratory. Questions about Macs?
Wondering how to be more productive with the Computer Science Department Macs? You're in luck, Mike Tie and Jeff Ondich will be running a help session in CMC 306 at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 15th. We will go over how to set up startup scripts, change environment variables, customize your desktop, and use windowing features. We will also discuss where to find standard Unix tools on the Mac. If you have any questions related to our set up please come and ask, we are here to help.

Art, Interactivity, and Robotics Opening on November 19
Wiggle, spin, buzz, whir--come see smart, electronic, interactive sculpture! Over the course of this fall term, 13 first-year Carleton students have participated in an unusual interdisciplinary course learning how to meld the art of sculpture and visual design with robotics and computer science. Their work will culminate in an "opening" to exhibit their interactive creations on Wednesday, November 19, from 7-8:30 pm, in Boliou 161 and in the surrounding hallways. Come join us to meet and interact with these unique creations and their creators.

Computer Science Lunch Table
Join us in the Class of '51 Room (LDC 113) inside the dining area of the LDC Tuesday, November 11, from noon to 1 to talk with professors and students. All CS majors and students currently enrolled in CS classes are invited! We had a great time at the last table and we'd love to see even more folks come by. It's an informal event and we talk about whatever subjects come up, so don't feel shy!
