Summer Research Opportunities at Carleton
It's not too early to start thinking about summer....and summer research opportunities in the Computer Science Department.  We will be posting a tentative list of research projects in mid-December, along with information about applying for these opportunities. In addition, this year we have a new joint program in conjunction with the Physics Department, the Clare Boothe Luce Research Scholars Program, with a deadline of January 15, 2010.

The Council on Undergraduate Research hosts a Registry of Undergraduate Researchers. The purpose of this registry is to facilitate matchmaking between undergraduates who have research experience and a desire to pursue an advanced degree, with graduate schools seeking high quality students who are well prepared for research. Computer Science Lunch Table
Hashtable is the Computer Science Department's lunch table. We'll meet in the LDC Shearer Dining Room from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10. Professors, majors, and any student enrolled in a CS course are invited. The third discussion topic will be “Interdisciplinary of Computer Science: What do we do after Carleton.” Discuss what and how computer science can cross traditional boundaries of other academic disciplines, and our possible career paths after college. Contact Sue Jandro for a meal ticket if you would like to attend and you are not on a board plan.

Registration for winter term courses is coming up soon: it begins on Monday, November 2. Click above for descriptions of the computer science courses (above Intro to CS) that will be offered winter term. In addition to your own advisor, remember that you can contact our Student Departmental Advisors Emily Kawaler (kawalere) or Kohei Shinkawa (shinkawk) if you have questions.

Josh Aas from Mozilla will be Visiting Carleton
Josh Aas, who works at Mozilla, will be visiting the Carleton CS department on Wednesday, October 21, during 2a. He'll be in the CS Lounge (CMC 307) to talk to students individually or in small groups about Mozilla, his work there, and the kinds of things that Mozilla is doing these days. He can talk about Mozilla's development process (tools, communication); Gecko's architecture; NPAPI plugin architecture, challenges and future directions; and other things that you're interested in. Mozilla is always looking for talented engineers, (see http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/careers), and Josh can also chat about job opportunities.
