Greening of the Campus
ENTS 298 ~ Ethics and Values Colloquium
Spring Term 2001
As part of the Ethics and Values Colloquium, students researched environmental issues on the Carleton campus and developed recommendations for how Carleton could make improvements in these different arenas thus helping Carleton to become a "greener," more sustainable campus. This small scale environmental audit resulted both in action taken by students and recommendations for action by the college. By archiving these projects on the web, it is our hope that in the future students, faculty, and staff can use and build on the research already conducted to bring about further change.
"The effort to green campus operations represents an attempt to fulfull a moral commitment to minimize environmental impacts that would otherwise undermine the health, ecological stability, and the beauty of the world our students will inherit. At a higher level, however, greening of the campus can be seen not as an end but as a means to a larger end: the greening of minds. Its aim is to equip our students with the analytical skills and practical abilities necessary to do the hard work ahead."
