French and Francophone Studies at Carleton seeks to provide students with proficiency in the French language, as well as to offer them in-depth study of French and Francophone literature and culture.
French is the language not only of France, Switzerland and Belgium, but also of twenty-three African countries, Québec, and several Caribbean and South Sea islands. It continues to be one of the most frequently studied second languages in the world; it can be beneficial for students who plan to enter professions in business, law, journalism, international affairs, science, social services, education or politics. French is also the language of a rich literary, philosophical and cultural heritage.
The French section offers a varied curriculum that is designed for both majors and non-majors, an extensive extracurricular program and two academic programs in France.Programs
