Edward M. "Ted" Mullin Prize Presentations
Tuesday, September 22, 2009, 5:00-6:30 p.m., Leighton 304, we combined our annual History welcome back celebration day with an opportunity for the co-winners of the Edward M. "Ted" Mullin Prize to briefly present their summer research findings.
1) Professor Annette Igra, History Department Chair, introduced our new visiting faculty members for 2009-10: Professors Brendan LaRoque and Oswald Masebo.
2) Seniors Erika Huckestein, Jordan Smith and Naomi Yoder, our three 2009 Edward "Ted" Mullin Fellowship Prize winners, spoke for about five minutes each about their summer Mullin projects and showed several slides. Erika traveled to London and Dublin to do her Mullin research on the visual representations of women, gender and nationalism in Ireland and Britain, Jordan worked at the British Museum, British Library, and the National Archives in London, and Naomi examined the Anabaptist convictions of Pilgrim Marpeck in Blufton, Ohio.
This was the first time we have offered our prize winners a forum to present their findings, and it was very exciting! These brief presentations were especially helpful to junior majors thinking of applying for the fellowship prize this winter. They gave students an excellent idea of the kinds of projects that have been supported by the Mullin Prize fund.
Edward "Ted" Mullin Prize Committee: Professors Susannah Ottaway, Bill North, and Harry Williams. For details about applying for the prize, please see: https://apps.carleton.edu/curricular/history/MullinMemorialFellowship2009/.
3) After the introductions and Erika, Jordan, and Naomi's conclusions, we held our annual Welcome Back refreshments reception!
