Spring, 2009. Talk on "Families, Societies and the Institutions of the Old Poor Law in Eighteenth-Century England" at the Yale British Historical Studies Colloquium in February, and in March presented a paper entitled "Hunting for Pensions in the Eighteenth Century" at a workshop on the comparative history of pensions at the Ecole d’Economie de Paris.

November, 2008. At Symposium on the Workhouse and Medicine in Birmingham, England, presented: "Humanitarianism and Hygiene in the Workhouse."

September, 2008:  Keynote address entitled "Institutionalizing the Aging Body" at an interdisciplinary conference held at the Institute for the History, Philosophy and Ethics of Medicine at Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz, and delivered a paper entitled "'A secure provision for the indigent is to the philanthropist what a pine-apple is to the epicure…': Political Economy and the Rights of Welfare Recipients in Late Eighteenth-Century England" at the International Society for Utilitarian Studies conference at the University of California Berkeley.

May, 2007: Associate Professor of History, gave a seminar in March at the Cambridge Group for the History of Population and Social Structure on "Workhouses, Families and the Rights of the Poor under the Old Poor Laws."
