Student Committee Members, 2007-08

What is the Departmental Curriculum Committee?

The Department Curriculum Committee (DCC) is currently made up of two seniors, two juniors, and one faculty adviser, Professor Annette Igra. The DCC meets and discusses the department's curricular changes and long-term needs from the students' perspective. All history majors are invited to give DCC members suggestions & ideas, which can also be solicited by the DCC members.

The DCC will meet for a dinner or coffee meeting with the History Faculty DCC Adviser, Annette Igra, early in Winter term to discuss the curriculum changes/additions for next year, and

Please look at the course schedule and make a note of any changes you would like to see, courses you need to be offered in 2007-08 , or any other suggestions and ideas. You can discuss them with a DCC member, bring them to the attention of Professors Igra or Morse, or e-mail them to me and I will happy to make copies for the DCC members and faculty adviser for discussion. Your needs will be presented to the rest of the History department faculty at a Department meeting related to the curriculum for consideration.

Through the years, the DCC has helped to fine-tune the History Department course schedule for the next year. When majors have pointed out a strong need for a History 395 in a particular field that was not originally scheduled, or when there has been a large demand for a course not regularly offered, the course schedule has been modified. Terms classes are offered have also been changed because of student needs. If the department is aware of potential course schedule problems pointed out by students, changes are possible. The History department strongly values student perspective because of the many helpful observations and suggestions offered in the past, and we hope this strong tradition of working together will continue.

Also, if you would like a department t-shirt or mug this year, or to do any sort of departmental activity (bowling night, go for History majors hike in Nerstrand woods, a History majors visit to the Historical Society in St. Paul, etc.) please tell your DCC Reps!
