Welcome to the Language Center

Welcome Students!
The Language Center offers a wide variety of resources to aid in your language education. We can provide you with video cameras and CAN8 language recording software for class-work. In addition to providing materials specifically for Carleton courses, we have installed text to speech software in multiple languages with native pronunciation on the Intel Macs in LDC 242. We also offer resources for your personal use in our comfortable lounge. Stop by to investigate our collection of foreign language recordings, Satellite TV programming and dictionaries. For those who wish to pursue a language not offered by the college, ask about our self-study not-for-credit program options. If you just want to read current articles by students, check out Carleton’s multilingual journal, The Polyglot. Visit us also for help downloading software for language classes or in creating efolios that will highlight your language skills for job or fellowship applications.
Need help with your language class assignments? Speak with your faculty, Language Assistant or Associate, or contact the Academic Support Center. Drop by the Center's help desk also for assistance within the labs. Many of our student staff are native speakers of some of the languages we teach at Carleton. Click on the Staff & Hours link to see when they are available.
