Kathryn Flack

I finished my Ph.D. in linguistics at UMass Amherst in 2007. Most of my work centers around the phonetics/phonology interface, and my dissertation, 'The sources of phonological markedness', investigates formal and functional motivations for phonological patterns. I've also worked on morpheme-specific markedness constraints in OT, lateral acoustics and phonotactics, and grammaticalized ambiguity-avoidance phenomena. I'm currently teaching linguistics at Hampshire College; next year I'll divide my time between teaching and working in Hampshire's institutional research office (with Carol Trosset '80).
