Karimba Ensemble (Spring 2002)

Karimba Ensemble - Not offered in 2013-14

MUSIC 191 - 1 credit per term, AL (offered Fall and Winter)
Rehearsals: Monday, Wednesday 12:30-1:40 p.m. (Library 305)

This ensemble focuses on the 15-key Shona (Zimbabwe) karimba. Students learn the fundamentals of solo and group playing and study selections from the instrument's traditional repertoire. No musical training or experience is necessary.

An ensemble of 22-key Shona (Zimbabwe) mbira dza vadzimu. Playing techniques, improvisational practices, and traditional repertoire will be taught. Prerequisite: Karimba Ensemble.
