Other Funding Sources
Additional Funding
You may need additional funding to help cover the costs of off-campus studies. Funding can be obtained through additional student loans, Carleton scholarships and grants, and external funding sources.
Need-based Financial Aid
Normally, additional loan funding is available to students receiving need-based aid to meet direct costs of an off-campus study program and the cost of travel associated with that program, and/or to replace unearned student work income. You will need to create a budget to determine your additional expenses when applying for additional financial aid.
Carleton College Scholarships and Grants
Individual departments may also have information about grants and scholarships for a particular area of study. For more information, visit the Dean of the College fellowships page.
External Funding
Organizations and institutions offer program and travel scholarships. The competition for them is stiff, and the lead time for applications is often 6-9 months. Plan early and write your proposal carefully. The following search engines can help you identify potential funding sources.

In addition, the following scholarships are available to students who qualify. In the past, Carleton students’ applications for these scholarships have been successful. Students who receive non-Carleton scholarships or grants and are on Carleton financial aid must notify the Student Financial Services Office about their award before they leave campus for their off-campus program.
