• Victory Day, Moscow

Participants in the program will work to improve their language skills as well as engage in a program of cultural immersion focused on Russian culture as a juncture for the traditions of its immediate—read Europe and East Asia—and not so immediate—the United States—neighbors. Issues to be explored through readings and travel include Russia’s inheritances from its settlers (or invaders?) toward the formation of a nation state; Russia’s emergence as world power and cultural exporter; Russia as colonizer, and current debate over Russian national identity.
