Necessary Check Out Steps
You may leave Carleton as a student in good standing only after you have:
- received written approval from the OCS Office about your participation in the off-campus studies program,
- been accepted into your program, and
- confirmed your participation.
If you neglect to notify the College of your departure, you will be considered withdrawn. You must apply to the Dean of Students Office for re-admission. If you decide to extend your time off-campus, you must notify the Dean of Students Office by the third Thursday of the term prior to the extended off-campus term.
Checking Out
It is your responsibility to check with the appropriate offices before you leave.
- Carleton Seminars
Once you have confirmed your participation in a Carleton seminar, you register for it in the Registrar's Office as you would for any Carleton course. - Non-Carleton Programs
When you submit your OCS Petition, you relinquish your right to housing and registration for the proposed term off-campus. Those rights will be reinstated once you return from your off-campus study program, or if you are not accepted into the program, or your petition is denied by the College. If your petition and application are approved and you confirm your participation in the program, you should contact the following offices:- Registrar's Office
You are responsible for arranging for the transfer of credits from your particular program to the Carleton Registrar. The OCS Office records the maximum number of credits which may be earned on your program on your OCS Petition. The actual number of credits is calculated by the Registrar when the transcript is received from your program, in consultation with department faculty members if necessary. - Office of Student Financial Services
You must maintain your full-time student status for your financial aid to follow you on off-campus study programs. If you are eligible for Carleton aid, you must complete the required forms available in the Office of Student Financial Services, Henry House. If you neglect to do so, you may be liable for the full bill for off-campus study. - Business Office
Prior to your departure, deliver to the Business Office a copy of the program's description, a billing schedule and amounts to be paid, and the name and address of the payee.
