The American School of Classical Studies at Athens, located in the heart of Greece’s capital city, is one of America’s most distinguished centers devoted to advanced study in the humanities. The American School of Classical Studies provides graduate students and scholars from affiliated North American college and universities a base for the advanced study of all aspects of Greek culture, from antiquity to the present day. The CAMES summer program in the Arabic language offers intensive courses at seven different levels: Introductory, High Introductory, Low Intermediate, Intermediate, High Intermediate, Advanced and Superior. The program emphasizes the instruction of Modern Standard Arabic or MSA (fusha). The program runs for six and a half weeks offering highly intensive course work in Arabic. AUP offers now one seven-week summer term from early June to mid-July, when AUP students as well as visiting students from around the world can earn transferable academic credit in a full range of liberal arts disciplines. AUP Summer courses are adapted from the regular AUP curriculum to fit the intensive 7-week structure. They are offered for academic credit in the U.S. university system.

Study and intern in London through CAPA. Their spring quarter program fits into Carleton's spring trimester schedule, with courses in psychology, sociology, history and politics of the United Kingdom.

Every summer since 1983, a member of the department leads a group of about 24 Carleton students in a program based at the University of Cambridge, the intellectual home of John Maynard Keynes and Alfred Marshall. Courses are taught by the program director and Professor Solomos Solomou, a member of the Cambridge economics faculty. Subject matter often includes the industrial revolution, the contemporary British economy and the history of economic thought. Though the seminar focuses on economics, it is open to all Carleton students. In addition to classroom study, students make a number of excursions to sites of cultural and economic interest. This includes a week-long trip to the north of England. During this trip, students see first hand a number of important artifacts from the industrial revolution. The program directorship rotates among members of the faculty.

The program will spend a week in Louisburgh, Co. Mayo on Ireland's West Coast, a month in Dublin, and a month in Belfast. Students will design an independent project using research, writing, and images to supplement the courses and display their knowledge of Irish literature and culture. The Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) was founded in 1962. It was first called the Preparatory School for Foreign Students. It is the only university whose main function is to teach Chinese language and culture to foreign students. Over the last 30 years, more than 20,000 foreign students have graduated from BLCU. Every year, about 3000 students from many countries, and more than 1000 Chinese students study here.

The goals of CET's Beijing Chinese Language program are twofold: rapid improvement of language skills and a solid understanding of contemporary Chinese society. Weekly themes integrate the intensive curriculum--a lecture class might introduce the "Chinese family"; family planning policies are debated during drill class; students interview a Chinese family for language practicum. A full-time language pledge and dorm rooms shared with local Chinese students round out this rigorous program.

Students abide by a full-time language pledge and explore Harbin, a location chosen for its standard Mandarin, with Chinese roommates. The curriculum, perfect for students with research interests, includes one-on-two drill classes, small group electives and student-designed independent study classes--a student favorite. Students who have completed at least four terms of college-level Chinese or the equivalent are eligible for the program, while those students who have completed four years or the equivalent of college-level Chinese may elect Harbin's "research track". Designed for advanced learners of Chinese, particularly those who are enrolled, or are planning to enroll, in a graduate program, the research track allows students to conduct guided thesis research under the direction of a Chinese faculty member. Research track students also take Classical Chinese, an area of study that prepares them for further research in their chosen field of study. Finally, a composition or pronunciation class rounds out the research track curriculum.

Prague, Czech Republic: Is this study abroad program for you? CET Film students produce and direct their own stories on 16mm or 35mm film. Students take a practicum and electives at FAMU, the Film and Television School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. They participate in all aspects of filmmaking: directing, cinematography, screen writing and editing. The program is open to challenge-seeking students who are excited to collaborate with peers and mentors.

The curriculum for the Film Production program is entirely integrated so that all courses work toward the production of a super 16mm narrative or documentary film, which students create in small groups. In the fall semester, students with previous production experience may apply to work in 35mm. Space on the 35mm program is limited and is granted on a competitive basis. The program adopts a mentorship approach so that students learn directly from experts in directing, screenwriting, cinematography, and more. Each production group includes Czech film students and CET students of similar abilities and experience. The Public Health program is designed for students exploring career opportunities in public health, either from a policy, sociology, or pre-med background. The core course and study tours offer you a Northern European perspective on salient aspects of public health, e.g. prevention, health promotion and quality improvement, an understanding of the challenges of health policy making, prioritization, and health economics, and the ability to derive comparative insight from analysis of different national health care systems.

The Sustainability in Europe program is designed for students of environmental studies, environmental science, management, public policy, and students generally interested in environmental affairs. The core course and study tours will enhance your understanding of the divergent goals and processes connected with sustainable development. You will be introduced to a broad range of Danish and European stakeholders currently shaping the sustainability agenda, and encouraged to identify your own values and strategies for a sustainable future.

Duke Study in China (DSIC) was inaugurated in 1982. It is one of the longest-running credit-granting programs in China administered by an American university. The program offers an intensive summer language program based in Beijing. The program is based at the prestigious University of International Business and Economics in Beijing (UIBE). UIBE is located in the Chaoyang District of Beijing, which is convenient to downtown, and has a modern, well-designed, picturesque campus.

The Global Education Office for Undergraduates, the Markets and Management Studies Program and the Philosophy Department of Duke University offer a six-week, two-course summer program in Geneva, Switzerland entitled, “Globalization: Issues in Business Management and Political Philosophy.” Home to a hundred multinational businesses, the European base of the United Nations (UN) and of all the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) which deal with it, Geneva provides a relevant location in which to study both the character and practice of international business and its impact on global issues of human rights, ecological protection, disarmament, and economic development.

In partnership with the University of New Hampshire Department of Natural Resources, the EcoQuest Education Foundation is offering a study abroad program of intensive, applied field studies in ecology, resource management and environmental policy. We welcome applications from eligible students at accredited colleges and universities worldwide. Based in France's fabled Loire valley, this seven week program offers linguistic and cultural immersion through a program of courses and field trips complemented by homestay with native host families. First, all students attend a two-week “Cultural Integration Workshop,” (CIW) taught by Georgetown faculty members and surveying current socio-cultural and linguistic realities in France. After a few days off, each student is placed in one of 9 levels of a four-week, multi-level intensive language session at the Institut de Touraine, a renowned institution specializing in French-language programs for foreigners. The program is open to Undergraduate and Graduate Students at all levels of French (except full beginners).

The program is designed for second year undergraduate students and upwards, graduate students and professionals interested in acquiring a knowledge of Modern Standard Arabic. The program is based on the principle of total immersion – the constant and exclusive use of a language in its native social and cultural environment. Studies combine formal classes, interaction with native speakers outside the classroom and exposure to the religious and cultural elements that have left their indelible mark on the Arabic language.

The IES Abroad Buenos Aires, Argentina program allows you to build your Spanish language skills in one of Latin America's most exciting cities. IES Abroad area studies courses are offereed in Spanish or English depending on which track you take: Beginning and Intermediate Spanish Program, Advanced Spanish Program and Advanced Spanish Honors Program. Over the course of the summer, you will come to know Dublin's winding streets and unique charm through a variety of culturally enriching opportunities. The program offers enrollment at the acclaimed Gaiety School of Acting- National Theatre School of Ireland, housing in fully-equipped student apartments, and field trips throughout the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Courses are taught by Gaiety School of Acting (GSA) instructors. Your coursework focuses on Acting and Devising, Movement for the Stage, Voice for the Stage, and Theatre Studies and Textual Analysis. These courses will be held at the GSA, and are worth 6 credits total

The IES Abroad Berlin Language & Area Studies Program draws upon Berlin's rich culture and tradition to connect coursework subjects with the living history of the city. The program offers IES Abroad courses taught in German by German faculty, as well as access to classes at a number of Berlin universities, including the renowned Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

The IES Abroad Milan Center is located in the city's historic center, near the prestigious Università Cattolica and within walking distance of the Duomo, Basilica di S. The IES Abroad Madrid Program is designed for those who want to experience the vitality of Spain by living in its capital city and through course enrollment at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), one of the country’s most distinguished universities. The IES Abroad Madrid Center is located in the heart of the Universidad Complutense’s main campus, inside the San Agustín Residence Hall. This location provides many opportunities to interact with the Spanish students living in the Colegio.The facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, student lounge and garden with WiFi Internet access, library, small gym, classrooms, and offices. Spanish language and culture classes in Merida, Mexico. The IFSA-Butler orientation includes a day trip to the archaeological site of Dzibilchanltun and to the beach port of Progreso, orientation also includes a tour of Mérida with historical information and social composition. The program fee includes three day-long field work experiences that are part of the academic program; destinations include an archaeological site in a historical town, fishing village, or nature preserve. Also included are cooking classes and exposure to the unique regional cuisine. The IFSA-Butler staff also organize outings to cultural events, museums and theaters.

The University of Dublin, Trinity College, in co-operation with USIT, offers an accredited Summer School in Irish Studies on campus in Trinity College, Dublin. Now in its twenty first year, the school is an opportunity to develop a deep understanding of contemporary Ireland. Carefully constructed parallel module courses introduce the student to Irish literature, history, politics, social and cultural studies, Gaelic literature and folklore and the visual arts. Apart from lectures and seminars, the school also includes cultural events and study related field trips. The Summer School takes place over seven weeks, June to August, every year.

ISA students will be engaged both culturally and academically while studying at Veritas University or the ULACIT (Latin American University of Science and Technology). For convenience, the ISA office is located on the university side of town. Students rave about the ISA staff and the program's success in helping them to achieve their study abroad and foreign language goals. At the ISA office, participants can check e-mail, obtain travel information, receive tutoring, and obtain details for upcoming ISA excursions. Participants find the San José study abroad program particularly rewarding due to the friendly locals (called Ticos) and numerous activities the city has to offer. Also an important highlight is San José's central location which makes it easy for touring beautiful Costa Rica.

Santander, located in northern Spain, offers an extraordinary landscape on the shores of the Bay of Biscay and has been described as Spain's "most elegant city." While the climate throughout much of the year is rainy, Santander is full of beauty with lush green trees and rolling green hills surrounding the city. With this green backdrop, Santander's beaches are known to be the best and most appreciated natural spaces, offering both small and large sandy beaches, some sheltered from the wind with calm waters and others open to the bay with more surf. Next to these beaches, beautiful natural areas look out over the coast, like Piquío with its emblematic gardens. Also, the Parque de La Magdalena faces the island of Mouro and surrounds the Palacio de la Magdalena, the most famous view in Santander.

This program introduces students to the language, history, art, architecture, politics, economics, and culture of Spain, while locating Barcelona in the larger context of the Mediterranean region. Coursework, language training, workshops, excursions, and the experience of living in a family homestay help students understand the local culture as they confront the issues facing Barcelona and Spain, including Spain’s role in the European Union and the many challenges of an evolving European landscape. The Lexia program in Barcelona is affiliated with The Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB). The program also includes guest lectures by artists, architects, and representatives of Barcelona’s ethnic communities, government sector, and public culture enclaves.

Berlin truly offers students a uniquely rich and layered experience. Culturally and ethnically diverse neighborhoods mark a city functioning not only as the federal and national, national capital, but also as the new center of European Union decision-making and business, and as a springboard to eastern Europe. Precisely these multifarious roles and tensions continue to make Berlin the setting for critical inquiry and a flourishing arts scene. In 2002, inspired by documenta11, Lexia in Berlin offered a parallel summer program in visual studies. Summer 2003 marked the beginning of an ongoing second track in Visual Culture. It is designed to make the most of what Berlin has to offer in the way of art collections and artistic innovation, to consider the conditions for creating, collecting, and displaying works of art, and to examine the interplay of culture and politics. Fall 2006 marked the beginning of Lexia's Architecture Program.

Lexia offers two tracks, Area Studies and Culture or Latin American Studies, both which take place at Universidad de Buenos Aires, the largest and most renowned public university in Argentina. Courses consist of a Spanish language course, cultural studies and an elective.

Based in the heart of Paris, Lexia in Paris introduces students to the language, history, politics, and culture of France, placing this fascinating country in a broad regional context in Western Europe. Coursework, language training, excursions, electives, and the experience of living in a homestay help students to understand the local culture and to confront the issues facing this nation. The program strongly supports interaction and dialogue between Lexia students and French people and faculty. To this end, local faculty are involved with the program from the very beginning, giving the participants immediate and direct access to the culture. No prior knowledge of French is required, as all courses are offered in English. However, intensive language training is provided, thereby helping students to develop the skills and confidence to live and study in a foreign country. In addition to the language training, students will also be encouraged to partake in several scheduled activities in French. Social encounters with local students, as well as organized field trips, all contribute to a greater understanding of this stimulating country.

LSE Summer School is the largest university summer school in the UK, with over 4,000 students attending in 2010. We offer over 60 intensively taught 3-week university level courses in Accounting, Finance, Law, Economics, International Relations, Government and Society, and Management. Courses are attended by students and professionals alike.

An internationally known painting school in the south of France, the Marchutz School takes an interdisciplinary and holistic approach to art education. The Marchutz School leads students to unify spontaneous perceptual painting and drawing with extensive museum and site-study in Europe and intensive critical dialogue amongst students and artists at all levels. The mission of the Marchutz School is threefold: to enhance awareness of the relationship between perception and imagination, to develop historical and critical perspectives, and, above all, to develop the student's capacity to see. Students at Marchutz look around them as well as within themselves until their artistic expression springs from a union of sight and insight.

The Semester in Environmental Science is a 15-week fall semester at the Ecosystems Center of the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. The curriculum provides an intensive field and laboratory-based introduction to ecosystem science and the biogeochemistry of coastal forests, freshwater ponds and estuaries. The curriculum leads students to develop research questions of their own. Equipped with new knowledge and techniques learned in the first weeks of the semester, they pursue independent research during the last six weeks of the program. SES students report their findings at a final symposium that is open to the entire Woods Hole scientific community, a world center for marine and environmental sciences.

In virtually any field of study, you'll find courses that challenge and inform, question and reveal. The academic program in Accra is unique among our sites because in addition to taking courses at the NYU Center you will have the opportunity to enroll directly in the local university to complete part of your course work. As you sit in class with the best and the brightest of Ghana's youth, you'll be taught by the nation's finest scholars.

At NYU in Paris, the city is your classroom. You'll acquire or improve your French language skills while exploring the art, literature, politics, and history of this unparalleled city. The NYU Center in Paris is located on the Right Bank near the Eiffel Tower and the Trocadero. Courses are available at the NYU Center, at the University of Paris, and at the Institut d'Études Politiques. All students take a required Workshop in French Language and Culture, which is an intensive two-week, two-credit French class at the start of the program and continue to study French for the rest of the semester. All courses maintain a tight focus on France - it's history, politics, literature, and arts - and are offered in both French and English.

NYU Summer in Madrid offers Spanish language courses at all levels, including intensive study, as well as Spanish literature, culture, fine arts, history, and cinema courses in English or Spanish. Courses are taught by NYU in Madrid faculty and Spanish university professors who are recognized experts in their fields. Students also enjoy a full range of cultural activities, seminars, and excursions led by experts in history, art, and architecture. Visits include the world-renowned Prado museum, other important museums and monuments, and Old Madrid, the "Greenwich Village" of this historic city. In addition, students' knowledge and understanding of Spain is broadened by excursions to other regions and cities such as Cordoba, Granada, and Toledo.

NYU Summer in Prague gives students the opportunity to study history in the making; the city itself combines medieval, Renaissance, baroque, and modern influences. The Czech Republic gained membership in the European Union in 2004, and Prague is an ideal place in which to observe the evolving cultural politics of the "new" Europe. Courses revolve around modern Czech and Central European literature and culture; Central European cinema; the art and architecture of Prague; Central European and Czech history, politics, and economics. An introductory intensive Czech language class is also available. All content courses are taught in English.

Live and work at 6 different field stations, in 6 different ecosystems throughout Costa Rica. The Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS) ecology, complemented by a strong foundation in the social, political, economic, and scientific aspects of resource management and conservation. The semester program, designed for biology majors but open to students from all disciplines, represents a unique opportunity to learn about the inner workings of field ecology under the direct guidance of experienced ecologists. Our programs are academically rigorous and field-based. Students have ample opportunity to enjoy a hands-on, participatory learning process, as well as to expand their academic and personal horizons in the context of a supportive learning environment.

This course integrates classroom and field instruction to introduce students to the fundamental principles of South African medicine and public health systems. Students will study topics including infectious diseases, epidemiology, virology and zoonosis, sexual health and reproductive issues, environmental health (vector ecology, water quality, waste management, entomology, toxicology), global health issues (emerging tropical diseases), and traditional and alternative medicine. Students will study current techniques and concerns in South African medicine and public health, analyze the impact of climate change for human health, and analyze the social and economic determinants that contribute to the expanding impact of infectious diseases. Students will learn firsthand about South Africa’s health care system, from the primary care in rural communities to large urban systems.

The Taku offers students the opportunity to experience an intact wilderness ecosystem by living and working in remote camps reached only by floatplane, hiking, and/or running the river. Students often begin with fisheries work on Atlin Lake - British Columbia’s largest natural body of freshwater- that includes snorkeling surveys for grayling and Bull trout, gill netting Lake trout, visiting with members of the Taku River Tlingit First Nation, and learning about important cultural sites. Students spend the majority of their time in the Taku watershed helping to record the traditional oral history of Tlingit elders, collecting grizzly bear DNA through non-invasive hair snaring, conducting amphibian studies, and ground-truthing habitat models for species such as the woodland caribou.

This is our newest student program, and we completed the Summer 2010 season with more possibilities and enthusiasm for future efforts than could have been anticipated. We have always said that getting involved early on research projects was one of the most dynamic periods because so many of the questions are still being formulated. This program is allowing students to have significant input in the direction of subsequent work. The overall theme of the Wyoming-based program is looking at issues related to climate change and how that is affecting local ecosystems and the people and animals living there.

By coming to SEA, you can get a semester’s credit for a 12-week program that takes place half on shore and half at sea. Our interdisciplinary program begins in Woods Hole, one of the world’s great centers for ocean research. Here you will study the chemistry, biology, physics, and geology of the oceans and you will design your own research project that you will carry out at sea. You will learn the history and culture of mariners who for centuries have gone to sea, an ancient tradition that you will join. You will discuss the major policy issues that will be tomorrow’s headlines. And you will learn what it requires to take a vessel under sail safely to the deep ocean and to international ports.

The Siena School is a Cultural Institute which, in close collaboration with two non-profit organizations, is committed to running semester and summer study abroad programs where our students become a vital part of our ongoing cultural and social work. We believe in teaching our students how the academic content of our courses can be translated into a deeper understanding of our country and in socially meaningful projects. Studying at the Siena School means listening to all that Italy has to offer and giving back to our city as you become a contributing part of it. The Siena School semester programs are all based on three corner-stones: cultural immersion; Italian language; home-stays. All of our classes are small and we guarantee a high degree of interaction between teachers and students. We offer our students the possibility of enrolling in a series of more traditional, lecture-based courses or of experiencing community-based learning in our internship program in art and/or social work.The Siena School specializes in the following areas of study: history of art, art, social sciences and humanities.

From barefoot doctors to traditional remedies, the Chinese public health system has drawn increasing attention in the West. In the SIT Community Health and Traditional Chinese Medicine program, students examine Traditional Chinese Medicine and public health issues by working with professionals in the field in both urban and rural settings. Students learn and practice an array of traditional techniques alongside professionally experienced medical doctors, usually trained in both Western and traditional Chinese medicine. Students observe traditional practitioners of herbal medicine, acupuncture, and massage therapy, and, in some cases, receive practical training. Additionally, students receive acupressure charts, sterile acupuncture needles, and models to practice on, as well as tuina massage practice bags, moxibustion sticks, and cups for cupping. The program’s books, among the best available on Chinese Traditional Medicine, are bilingual and cover theory, diagnosis, tuina massage, acupuncture, and moxibustion.

Examine the physical processes of energy utilization and the economics of energy use and its environmental impact. The Iceland: Renewable Energy, Technology, and Resource Economics study abroad program is offered in the summer. The program’s small group size facilitates exemplary student support. Iceland is a world leader in developing the use of renewable energy. While this is partly attributable to the country's ample endowment of geothermal and hydroelectric resources, Icelanders have also made unique economic choices, valuing the social benefits of energy independence differently than much of the world. Students gain insight from the Icelandic experience that can be applied elsewhere in the world.

Students can expect to: Examine Vajrayana Buddhist culture, which nourished a rich, visual tradition in sculpture, painting, and architecture; Consider the ancient civilizations that thrived in the Himalayas; Travel through the valleys of Spiti, Ladakh and Zanskar, on the Tibetan plateau; Discover the symbolism and cultural and religious significance of ancient Indian art nestled in remote locations; Learn introductory Hindi & Witness the stunning natural landscape and unusual wildlife of the western Himalayan area. The program features an 8-credit seminar on Himalayan Buddhist art and architecture.

The SIT Jordan: Intensive Arabic Language Studies program is an intensive, field-based Arabic language immersion program held during the summer. Based in the capital city of Amman, students are fully immersed in an Arabic-only environment and learn through a combination of classroom instruction, field exercises, and meaningful homestay experiences. Complementary educational excursions outside of the program base reveal Jordan's rich heritage, culture, and geography while providing diverse contexts in which to practice language skills. Students have the unique opportunity to live with a Bedouin community during their excursion to the Badia area of Jordan. Group excursions to both the north and south of Jordan include site visits to Petra, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba while providing myriad opportunities to learn Arabic in customized field-based settings.

The SIT Morocco: Intensive Arabic Language and Moroccan Culture program is an intensive field-based Arabic language immersion program offered during the summer. While instruction is focused primarily on Modern Standard Arabic (fus’ha), students also learn Moroccan Arabic (darija) through classroom instruction during orientation and time with host families.

More than a decade into democracy, South Africa continues to struggle with the legacy of apartheid. From the Soweto uprisings to contemporary campus life, educational institutions in South Africa have long been sites of social struggle and political organization, as well as centers of learning and formal education. This program examines the role of education in South Africa in the context of the country’s historical circumstances, contemporary public policy, and social and economic development. Students typically spend time at primary, secondary, and tertiary schools, as well as adult educational centers in urban and rural KwaZulu-Natal. The Zululand rural homestay period includes a one-week practicum and observation of nearby educational institutions.

Based in Geneva, this program provides a thorough background in international studies. Students examine the political, economic, security, strategic, and environmental dimensions of the rapidly evolving international system in the context of globalization. The program focuses on the strategies of international, supranational, and nongovernmental organizations in addressing current challenges to peace, stability, and sustainable development.

This groundbreaking study abroad program, offered during the summer, engages students with the active peace-building and NGO community in the Lake Victoria Basin. Students experience two homestays, one in each country, as well as multiple educational excursions to carefully selected sites including the Rwanda Genocide Memorial. The program combines coursework in the classroom with experiential field visits to historical and cultural sites as well as to communities, NGOs, and government departments working in peace-building, reconstruction, and recovery. Students have lectures, classroom discussions, readings, and de-briefings on history, contemporary politics, and the role of the state.

The Ulpan is offered twice each year, in the summer and winter prior to the beginning of each semester. Undergraduate and graduate students alike enroll in this course prior to beginning their overseas programs. The goal of this course is to equip students with the language skills required to enhance their Israel experience. Additionally, students may apply only for the Ulpan and earn a total of 6 academic credits upon successful completion. This rigorous course, which meets five times per week for five hours, is offered twice a year, before the beginning of each semester.

In The Ailey School/PPAS Program, 70-80 Dance Majors attend academic classes every morning at the Professional Performing Arts high school from 7:45am to 1:20pm. In the afternoon, a school bus takes them to The Ailey School where they attend two dance classes from 1:45pm to 4:30pm. Students are placed in one of four technique levels at a placement audition at the beginning of the school year. Each level takes in a broad curriculum of 7 to 10 classes each week that includes ballet, modern dance, West African, Jazz and other techniques. The curriculum is designed to promote consummate technical progress appropriate for each student's age and stage of physical development. The weekly schedule is supplemented by regular workshops and lectures on dance history, nutrition, anatomy, injury prevention, body conditioning, music for dancers, West African dance, improvisation, career transition, college preparation, and audition practice. Workshops are taught by the distinguished faculty and staff of The Ailey School.

This program offers students 12 class hours per week of Chinese language during the fall and spring semesters and 15 hours per week during the summer as well as the opportunity to examine modern China through courses in English in several disciplines including economics, film studies, women’s studies, and cultural studies. Students may enroll for a semester, summer, or academic year, or a combination of a semester and summer term. The program is designed for students from a wide variety of majors and academic interests, with a curriculum that spans development studies, economics, public health, environmental studies, international affairs, political science, film and media studies, anthropology, history, and women's studies. By providing a core academic base and allowing progressive specialization though electives, culminating in an internship or directed research project of the student's own choosing, the Alliance's Contemporary India program takes an interdisciplinary yet focused approach to these timely and provocative issues, both as they apply to India and in their global context.

This Program provides a challenging opportunity for the serious art student who wishes to combine international travel with an intensive studio and classroom experience. The medieval hilltown of Cortona offers a rich historical environment where students can easily integrate with the lifestyle of a typical Italian community. Students can choose from a variety of classes each semester. During the spring or fall, students should select 4 courses. All students are required to take Art History 3020. They can select 3 additional classes from those offered. During the summer, students can take 3 classes. They are highly encouraged to take Art History 3020 as it is such an important part of the program. Non-studio majors who have not completed Drawing I, Color Theory, 2-D and 3-D Design can choose from Ceramics, Jewelry, and Paper Making/Book Arts. During the spring semester, several Creative Writing courses are offered. During May and June, three Maymester programs are scheduled to be offered - Science, Viticulture/Enology, and Drama.

The Intensive Hebrew Summer Ulpan brings students from over 40 countries to the University of Haifa to study Hebrew in one of the most effective language learning programs in Israel. The Ulpan is designed for those who want to immerse themselves in an intensive language acquisition experience that is personally enriching as well as academically demanding. Instruction is offered on all levels from beginning to advanced. The Summer Ulpan is divided into two independent four-week sessions, each offering all levels of proficiency. Students may register for either or both sessions.

Based at the Paul Valéry University, the liberal arts division of the University of Montpellier, this program also provides access to the highly regarded medical, engineering, and law departments through an extremely flexible course structure. Choose from a mix of special courses with American and foreign students, and regular University of Montpellier courses with French students. Host family, apartment, or dormitory living allows for different types of integration into everyday French culture. Supplemental excursions introduce the unique flavor of southern France.

This program is offered in collaboration with the prestigious José Ortega y Gasset Foundation and the University of Minnesota. Based in a converted 16th Century convent, the program offers modern learning facilities surrounded by spectacular views of the city, and easy access to the downtown area and public transit. In addition to the opportunity to improve Spanish language ability, the program offers a wide range of courses in the humanities, social sciences, and arts. Located just an hour from Madrid, Toledo is an excellent base from which to explore Spain.

The Waseda Summer Japanese Program offers 12-15 quarter credits (8-10 semester credits) of Japanese language in six weeks. The first three weeks take place at the Seminar House in Hachioji, and the following three weeks take place at the main waseda campus in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The Summer Japanese Program has four (4) levels of Comprehensive Japanese and Japanese Language Skills Course offered including workshops. The Comprehensive Japanese level that a student is placed into determines which workshops he/she can take. Waseda gives an online placement test to all participants, no matter what their language background.
