Class of 2008

Class of 2008:

What some of them are doing after graduation. If you have not yet responded, you can send an update with a picture to Jill Tollefson (jtollefs@carleton.edu)!

Abe Graber:

Masters program in philosophy at the University of Iowa.

Brittany Larson:

I will be working as an Assistant Director for Grassroots Campaigns, INC up in Minneapolis this summer and fall, through the presidential election. Following a (hopefully) successful campaign there, I have applied to join the Peace Corps, but I have yet to hear back from them. Also in the future is graduate school in the area of peace and conflict resolution, as well as a possible future in politics.

Dillon Muth:
Starting in September, I will pursue my Degree of Veterinary
Medicine at The Ohio State University, which is a four-year
professional program. I'm really excited to start this new chapter of
my life, meeting new people who have similar goals to those of mine.

In addition, I'm pretty psyched to root for the football powerhouse and attend a large of number games. Go Buckeyes!

Nik Olendzki:

I'll be working at UMass medical for the department of preventative and behavioral medicine. My job title is "research coordinator," and I'll be working for the primary investigator doing psychology and physiology research involving mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) and its effect on things like immunological function, asthma, hot flashes, prostate cancer, etc.

Terin Mayer:

Truth is, I'm not sure yet. I've also been offered an internship at a place called the Media Education Foundation, which makes media criticism documentaries as curricular resources, mainly. I'm also applying for an internship at NPR. But things are more or less up in the air.

Varsha Seetharam:
So I'm working as a Business Analyst for a management consulting company (Deloitte Consulting), which will involve a lot of travelling. What does a management consultant do, you ask?

"Management consulting refers to both the industry, and the practice of, helping organizations improve their performance, primarily through the thorough analysis of existing business problems and development of plans for improvement." - Wikipedia

Mike Sterling:

Next year I will be working at a small mutual fund in New York City, creating spreadsheets and whatnot. In terms of long-term plans, I am currently deciding whether I want to pursue a career in screenwriting, philosophy, or finance. I am likely to fail at screenwriting, profit from and tire of finance, and ultimately retreat to philosophy.

Bessie Schwarz:

After spending the summer ('08) traveling in Italy and Turkey, I will
begin a 13-month program with GreenCorps, "a field school for
environmental organizing". Over the year I will join the grassroots
environmental movement by running a number different environmental
campaigns for environmental and social action organization. This work
will put me in various cities across the country, yet I will be in the dark as to which cities those are until training begins in August.
