Philosophy students win QUIRK fellowship to study experimental philosophy

April 2, 2010

Congratulations to Daniel Peck, '13, Lorenzo Najt, '13, Sarah Pinkham, '12, and Jabir Bin Mohd Yusoff, '11 on winning a competitive Carleton QUIRK (Quantitative Inquiry, Reasoning and Knowledge Initiative) summer grant for their project, "Do demographics affect philosophical intuitions about personal identity?

The group  will test people's intuitions regarding personal identity and examine specifically how these vary over certain demographic boundaries such as class, culture and education. They will be conducting a survey designed to gather relevant data in the Twin Cities. They hope to advance the relatively new field of experimental philosophy, which has only just begun to be applied to the study of personal identity.

The group will give a talk presenting their results sometime during fall, 2010, so stay tuned!
