I have retired from teaching China and Asia related topics at Georgetown University and the State Department's Foreign Service Institute, but I continue to work in those fields as President of American Asian Research Enterprises in Washington D.C. My closest contact with physics is Science magazine and a continuing interest in astronomy/astrophysics. I serve on the preparatory committee for the 50th reunion of the Class of 1957. My son, Aaron, is a sophomore at Carleton.

Hi all, I’m still enjoying retirement in Cape Elizabeth Maine with wife Carol. We’ve been doing about a month of southern camping in our tent trailer each winter/spring. We are planning a visit to Minnesota next September to celebrate the 70th birthdays with other 1953 graduates of Murray High School in St. Paul. And, several of us will hit the Quetico for our 11th Old Geezer Canoe Trip. We continue to believe we’re not too old for this, Paul Nachman—how about you? Cheers
David Smith
Majoring in physics at Carleton led to a Cornell degree in physics followed by 38 years in industry working on engineering physics and EE projects. After retiring from transistor modeling in September 2002, I have found time to vacation, visit friends around the country and finish projects. My experience is similar to may others: you start out in physics and end up in engineering programming. All told, life's path is never straight but always interesting.

Update since leaving Carleton: MS in physics from U of IL; taught physics at Tougaloo College; an HBCU (historically black college or university) from 1962 to 1982; earned an MS in CS at Jackson State University and taught math & CS at Tougaloo 1983 to 1998; retired; earned an AAS degree in computer networking; taught at Holmes Community College 1999 to 2003. I am now continuing with teaching a networking course and also with supervising students taking tests for an on-line course. In 1961, I married Margrit, a Swiss citizen I met at an ecumenical work camp in Lebanon. She has been active in child-care and advocacy, has retired and returned part-time to her Swiss profession of teaching knitting. We have two children and are expecting a 3rd grandchild in February 2005. Our health remains good. Hobbies include gardening and recycling.
