  • The Greenpeace Organizing Term
The GOT is an action-packed semester of travel and training; a hands-on training program designed to learn skills to be an environmental leader. Learn about current environmental issues and solutions while being trained by experts in grassroots organizing, leadership, media, and campaign strategy. Travel internationally with Greenpeace to work with activists abroad. Learn how to engage in peaceful direct action, climb, and drive Greenpeace boats!

Many students are able to receive class credit for the semester.

Spring class is filling up, and early applications are due September

  • America Votes Minnesota Internships

Want to get in on the positive progressive change happening in Minnesota and get credit for it? America Votes is a coalition of thirty progressive organizations including Wellstone Action, Planned Parenthood, Sierra Club, SEIU and AFSCME. They are working together in politics and policy to make Minnesota better.

Build professional skills, make positive change and have fun at the same time. Individuals are expected to commit to 15-20 hours per week. Positions are paid ($500 stipend) with the option of receiving course credit.

Internship responsibilities include:

Data analysis projects – possible topics could include determining best times to reach voters, or the effect of competitive local races on major elections.

Produce reports to show where organizational work is overlapping

GIS mapping

Research

Data and technology projects

Requirements:

Strong interest in progressive politics

Adaptability to tasks that vary as priorities change

Good written and oral communication skills

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and web programs preferable

  • Campaign internship – Northfield Mayoral Race

Mary Rossing, a Northfield mayoral candidate, is looking for a Carleton student to serve as a campaign intern. This unpaid intern would be the point person on campus to get the candidate's message out to students, but the intern could be involved in town too if desired.   • New York City Urban Fellows Program, 2009-2010

The City of New York sponsors the Urban Fellows Program. Participants are introduced to local government and the public sector. This program offers aspiring public policy makers the opportunity to grapple first-hand with contemporary issues.
