Summer Undergraduate Research Opportunities

            There are many opportunities for 10-12 week summer research programs for undergraduates throughout the country.  The AAMC keeps a list that can be found here:  https://www.aamc.org/members/great/61052/great_summerlinks.html

Note that this list may not be comprehensive- there are some schools that have programs not listed here.  This will take some research to do on your own.  If you know of a place that you would like to work in the summer, and it is not listed here, then go to the school's website and search for summer undergraduate research opportunities.  It may take some “digging” but if they have a program then you should be able to find it!

Listed below are programs that have directly sent us links to their programs and advertised them.  Not all schools do this. The list from the AAMC shown above is a great place to start!


Pathology Aide - Workflow Coordinator

Duties include:

  • Arriving at 4:30am to begini workflow organization tasks; departure typically before 1pm,
  • Primary responsibility for receiving, organizing, prioritizing, and distributing these cases for pathologists;
    "organizing" will often include identifying and printing specific clinical information from patients' charts',
  • Maintaining a detailed formal job description,
  • Cross-training the other Pathology Aides in performing the Workflow Coordinator function during absences,
    and in turn cross-training to do their functions when needed
  • Other duties as needed by pathologists.

Prerequisites and Skills:

  • 4-year undergraduate degree in pre-medical studies with stated intention of applying to medical school
  • Fluent with basic computer and keyboarding skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint)
  • High level of enthusiasm and client-service orientation
  • Ability to multi-task during periods of workload.
