Jenny Holm ('07) received a Fulbright fellowship to spend the 2007-2008 academic year in southwestern Russia, researching and writing a collection of creative non-fiction essays on changing foodways in the country’s agricultural heartland.

Nate Chappelle (’07) received a Newman Language Scholarship for the summer of 2006 to participate in the ten-week Tahoe-Baikal Institute's Summer Exchange Program. The program will involve such activities as investigative projects and restoration work. It takes place in both Russia and the United States.

Jenny Holm (‘07) received a Kelley Fellowship to do research abroad during winter break 2006. She plans to spend one month in Russia, researching the role of 'kitchen conversations' and the evolution of public and private space in the young Russian democracy.

Ben Owens (’07) will participate for the second time in the American Association for the Support of Ecological Initiatives' summer 2006 program. He will spend one month visiting Russian nature reserves and studying conflict resolution and the Russian system of environmental protection.

Jonathan Rodkin (‘07) received a Class of 1963 Fellowship to spend time in Odessa, Ukraine studying the "resources embedded within social relationships and how those resources are affected by being Jewish and aged in Ukraine in 2006".

Nazish Zafar (‘07) received a Kelley Fellowship to spend time in Russia studying how Russian orphanages prepare children to become functional and conscientious members of society.

Honor Malone ('05) received a Fulbright Fellowship for 2005-2006 to study the estates of the Russian landed gentry as cultural centers in the 18th and 19th centuries and the fate of those estates in the Soviet period. Following a semester of work at the Institute of Culture in Orel, Honor will embark on a restoration project of her own at an estate near Tver'.

Ben Owens ('07) spent summer 2005 on the American Association for the Support for Ecological Initiatives program in northern Russia.

David Donnelly ('04) received the highly competitive National Flagship Language Initiative Fellowship from the National Security Education Program to support a year of advanced Russian language study.

Robert Webber ('07), David Donnelly ('04), Brian Droitcour ('02), Meghan Simpson ('00), Robert Anderson ('98) are recipients of the National Security Exchange Program fellowships, awarded for their research and studies during and in the summers immediately following the Carleton Moscow Program.

Thistle Parker-Hartog ('98) received a Larson International Fellowship for the summer of 1997 to study folklore, beliefs, and traditions in Southwestern Russia.

Jeremy Younkin ('98) received a Class of '63 Fellowship to retrace John Steinbeck's 1947 travels in Russia and the Ukraine; Jeremy has just completed law school at Harvard.

Anne Dwyer ('97) received a Fulbright Fellowship for 1997-98 to study history in Lithuania and a grant for the summer '97 to study Lithuanian at Baltic Studies Summer Institute at the University of Chicago. Anne is currently completing her Ph.D. in Russian at the University of California at Berkeley.

Randi Huber ('97) received a Fulbright Fellowship to study in Latvia.

Tricia Cornell ('95) received a Fulbright Fellowship for 1995-96 to study ethnicities in Estonia (University of Tartu).
