Description
The California Images collection is composed of digital images from the slide collection of Professor Michael Kowalewski, who teaches English and American Studies. The collection supports teaching and student research in his American Studies seminar, “Visions of California,” a broad-ranging exploration of California art, writing, history, society and environment. “Visions of California” was, from 1995-2004, an American Studies off-campus program. It is presently an on-campus research seminar. The collection includes images of paintings, photographs, architecture, commercial art, archival material and personal photos used in the seminar.
Michael Kowalewski is the editor of Reading the West: New Essays on Western American Literature (1996) and Gold Rush: A Literary Exploration (1998). He has written widely on California literature, art and culture.
