Calling all volunteers! The Main Street Project needs our help planting hazelnut trees near their chicken coops at SEEDS farm to create a more resilient farm system.

Reasons to plant hazelnut trees:

1. Nitrogen uptake increases with Hybrid Hazelnut trees (preventing the soil to burn out from too many nitrates from chicken manure)
2. Proves another source of income for producers
3. Provides shade and protection for chickens (i.e. predators and weather elements)

If you are interested in helping out on Saturday, email kaufmans@carleton.edu.

Main Street Project is a local non-rpofit that is working to build a socially, economically and ecologically sustainable food system with the power to revitalize rural communities. Learn more at http://www.mainstreetproject.org.

Note: If you can't make this time but would still like to help, they will be planting from 9-4 on Monday and Tuesday and we can help you arrange transportation to go on your own during these times! Just email ostensot.
