I'm Emily Ruff, class of '09, and this is my Carleton.

CAPTION: Dixon House

I live in a townhouse with five other girls who are great people. My best friend on campus is Shilpa Rao; she's actually my roommate. Michelle Deeter also lives in my house; she's another international relations major. My other housemates are Jinhee Ha and Caitlin Magnusson and Jessica Taylor: history major, CAMS [Cinema and Media Studies] major, biology major, respectively.

Since there's six of us, we have one person cooking every night of the week and then on one night we're on our own. Four people in the house were on an off-campus study program in China so we all like Chinese food. I like cooking Italian food a lot, and just stuff that my mom makes.

This is my helpful housemates, doing the dishes. Say hello...

We keep each other sane. There are...I think four people compsing right now in my house. You come home and your friends are always waiting for you, talking about books, talking about what we want to do next year--just connecting, you know?

Do I expect to be invited to Shilpa's wedding, to Caitlyn's wedding? You know...yes, absolutely. I can totally see us getting together and playing bridge or playing Scrabble or whatever when we're 80.

I chose to be a part of this project, to be in this video, as a way of helping Carleton. That's how I see it. It's sort of me trying to do my part to share about this place that I love so much, and these opportunities that I've had at Carleton for learning and making lifelong friendships.

[I'm] very, very grateful to all the people who have given in the past who have allowed me to have these experiences, and to you for thinking of giving to Carleton.
