ALL IN UNISON: We are the Alexander sisters and this is our Carleton.

TITLE: Maggie Alexander '12

MAGGIE: I think freshman year is really a learning year, and so you come in and it's just really exciting with all these new experiences. And, you know, you're trying new things that you never would have done.

TITLE: Becky Alexander '09 - Studio Art & Spanish Major

BECKY: Coming in, when they asked me what I was interested in, I wrote down a whole list of, you know, English, philosophy, physics, math....

TITLE: Kate Alexander '10 - Biology Major

KATE: And then I took Bio 125, and I just found it so interesting that you could keep searching and searching for things.

MAGGIE: Taking my first biology class, with a lab, um...the lab just blew me away.

BECKY: I really like ceramics because I really like working with my hands. Throwing, I feel like you get to put your whole body into it. The clay reacts to how you're feeling, so if you're having a bad day it can either make that worse or you can sort of center yourself.

So for the senior show, we basically...I like to think of it as the best comps presentation out there. Because it's kind of, basically, a huge party where you get to show off what you've been working on, without any of the nerves that come along with speaking in front of people, or anything like that.

KATE: I don't find it a problem, balancing swimming and academic life. I think actually swimming helps. It kind of breaks up the day, so I have a part of the day where I'm just, like, not thinking about academics at all. And that really helps facilitate learning later.

BECKY: In my experience as an artist at Carleton, especially working with clay all the time, I've come to realize that in order to work with this medium you have to put your whole body into it--you have to interact with it, you have to really enjoy what you're doing. I think that Carleton is a community that I've really interacted with in the same way, and really loved being here, and has become a really important part of my life.

So I am asking you help reach out to Carleton, help touch Carleton, and help make Carleton a place that other people fall in love with as well.
