Diversity Initiative Group (DIG)

  • What is DIG?

The Diversity Initiative Group (DIG) serves two important purposes at Carleton. DIG exists to discuss, assess and strengthen the College’s campus climate, work culture and institutional commitment to diversity. DIG also makes recommendations and proposals for changes in diversity policies and programs to College Council, of which it is a subcommittee. DIG is chaired by the President, and its members who are appointed by the President, are drawn from the faculty, staff and students. DIG meets monthly and its deliberations are reported at each College Council meeting.

  • Statement on Diversity

The purpose and scope of the Statement on Diversity is to define “diversity” and explain its importance to the educational mission of Carleton. The statement was prepared in the spirit of a preamble, a broad statement of principles that reflects the institutional commitments of Carleton to diversity. It is a preamble to a host of existing policy statements on non-discrimination, curriculum, multicultural education, and hate speech. Indeed, these documents are meant to follow the diversity statement (preamble) in the formal presentation of Carleton’s approach to diversity.
