Environmental Statement of Principles

Carleton College recognizes that it exists as part of interconnected communities that are impacted by personal and institutional choices. We are dedicated to investigating and promoting awareness of the current and future impacts of our actions in order to foster responsibility for these human and natural communities. Carleton strives to be a model of stewardship for the environment by incorporating ideals of sustainability into the operations of the college and the daily life of individuals.

Review the Statement and its History


  • Subscribe to the EAC Communications Workgroup List and become involved with the Environmental Advisory Committee, specifically concerning issues of communications on campus (ie Recycled Air, the Green Piece, sustainability website, etc.)
  • Subscribe to the EAC Energy Workgroup List and become involved with the Environmental Advisory Committee, specifically concerning issues of energy on campus (ie wind energy, biodiesel, co-generatiion, etc.)
  • Subscribe to the EAC Food Workgroup List and become involved with the Environmental Advisory Committee, specifically concerning issues of food on campus (ie local, organic, composting, etc.)
  • Subscribe to the EAC Materials/Procurement Workgroup List and become involved with the Environmental Advisory Committee, specifically concerning issues of materials on campus (ie fair trade, organic, recycleable, compostable, etc.)
  • Subscribe to the EAC Sustainability Initiative Workgroup List and become involved with the the Environmental Advisory Committee, specifically concerning issues of sustainability on campus (ie 100 year plan, sustainability coordinator, long-term goals of the college, etc.)
