Writing Requirement

Students tho matriculated prior to fall 2010 or transfers who matriculate in fall 2010 are required to 1) pass a writing rich (WR) course with a C- or better and 2) complete a writing portfolio to be reviewed by faculty after the third term, and no later than the seventh week of the sixth term. Those students entering with AP scores of 5 or IB scores of 7 on English language or literature exams are not required to take a WR course but must submit a portfolio.

Entry-level students who matriculate on or after fall 2010 and transfer students who matriculate after fall 2010 are held to both of the above writing requirements (entry-level students completing the first requirement via the Argument and Inquiry Seminar) and are required to complete an additional six credits of writing rich (WR2) coursework with a C- or better.  No waiver of the first requirement will be granted based on AP or IB scores.

Students who fail to turn in a portfolio by the deadline will not be allowed to register for the next term until the portfolio is reviewed.

Faculty and staff members review portfolios and rate them as either exemplary, passing, or in need of more work.
