An interdisciplinary program for the promotion of public scholarship on campus

The Humanities Center is delighted to support an interdisciplinary program for the promotion of public scholarship on campus—Dialogos. Much like a mini-conference organized around a central question, each session features one or two faculty members presenting a pertinent aspect of their current research, followed by comments by another faculty member whose work treats a related topic or field.

The Dialogos theme for the 2012-13 academic year will be “Dimensions of Mind” and will be kicked off with a session featuring Trish Ferret (ENTS, Chemistry) and Tun Myint (ENTS, Political Science). Trish and Tun will speak at a jointly sponsored LTC common time event on: "College Classrooms, Fiji Water, and the Individual: A Complex-Systems Approach."

A Winter term Dialogos will feature Roger Jackson and Kristin Bloomer (both in Religion) on Tuesday, Feb 5, 5 pm, location tba. Understanding the Religious Mind: Meditating Monks, Mother Mary and the Limits of Inquiry.

Spring term will bring Ken Abrams (Psychology) presenting his research on the question “Are Paraphilic Sex Offenders Less Responsible for Their Behavior than Non-Paraphilic Sex Offenders? And Lauren Feiler (Economics) speaking to the topic: “Intentional Ignorance: A Study in Decision Making.”
