[IdeaLab] 

In the past few years, members of the Carleton community have been engaged in conversations about the merits of team-based learning, active learning spaces, and adapting the practice of critiques or "crits" in the Arts for broader use.  The Lab in the IdeaLab is designed for these kinds of intensively collaborative techniques.  Just as this space allows for flexible use among groups and individuals, there workstations are computationally powerful and up to the demands of creative work.

The IdeaLab has 15 Mac Pro tower workstations, a teaching station, four monitors and a projection system.  The IdeaLab was created for Active Learning, and collaborative project-based work.  It's the only place at Carleton that was specifically created for learning new media and specialized software.  The computers are all dual-boot, Mac OS Lion, and Windows 7 machines.  They run almost every software program used at Carleton, so whether you want to work with The Adobe Creative Suite, or Stats software like R or SPSS, you'll be able to do so at the IdeaLab.  The IdeaLab can be scheduled for classes and workshops.  Contact us at x7999 or e-mail us at idealab@carleton.edu for more information.
