Recreational Sports & Fitness
Carleton may be better known for brains than brawn, but both get a serious workout here! Over 90% of students play an intramural, club, or varsity sport. So whether you're a fierce competitor at the top of your game or just interested in getting a little exercise in good company, you'll find options to suit you at Carleton.
If team sports are your passion, we’ve got 18 Varsity Athletic teams competing in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), one of NCAA Division III’s best conferences. We've also got another 50 student-organized Club Sports and an Intramural Sports league open to all (it’s fun to whup your professor at broomball!).
For walkers, bicyclists, runners, and cross-country skiers, there’s no better place to work up a sweat than our 880-acre Cowling Arboretum. Part recreation area, part nature refuge, The Arb is the perfect spot to clear your head (and move your feet) after class. If you’d like some company, or help with planning your outdoor adventures, get in touch with the friendly folks at CANOE (the Carleton Association of Nature and Outdoor Enthusiasts).
Yoga? Bosu? Massage or Meditation? Explore the Mind/Body/Spirit connection, or whip your rhomboids, deltoids and erector spinae into shape at our 80,000-square-foot Recreation Center, with its raquetball courts, fitness center, track and climbing wall.
