Forkosh Lecture in Judaic Studies focused on Israeli-Palestinian conflict issues

Gershon Baskin, founder and co-chairman of the Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information, will give the Carleton College Forkosh Family Lecture in Judaic Studies on Wednesday, April 22 at 8 p.m. in the Boliou Hall auditorium. Entitled “Elections, Palestinian Diplomacy and US-Israel Relations,” Baskin’s presentation will focus on post-election Israel, asking if peace between Israel and Palestine is still on the table. An esteemed social and political activist, Baskin will share his insights on Israeli-Palestinian conflict issues. This event is free and open to the public.

The Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information is dedicated to the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the basis of “two states for two peoples” solution. Baskin is a leading negotiator between Israel and Hamas, working with Mahmoud Abbas and the late Yitzhak Rabin, along with many others, in a range of collaborative contexts to promote Israeli-Palestinian peace.

Baskin is the author of numerous books, including “The Negotiator: Freeing Gilad Schalit from Hamas” in 2013 (Toby Press). He is the recipient of the Histadrut Prize for Peace (1996), the Turkish Foreign Policy Institute Peace Prize (2004), the Tribute of Honor and Courage from the World Movement for Democracy (2004), the Search for Common Ground Journalist Award for Middle East Journalism (2005 and 2007), and the Ordine Della Stella Della Solidarieta Italiana by the President of Italy (2007).

Baskin is also a columnist for the Jerusalem Post and holds a PhD in international relations from the University of Greenwich.
