Carleton and St. Olaf music faculty present “Music of War”

April 20, 2015

Music faculty from Carleton and St. Olaf Colleges will come together for a special performance on Sunday, April 26 at 3 p.m. in the Carleton College Concert Hall. Entitled “Music of War,” the reflective and provocative program will feature musical selections from and about war. This event is free and open to the public.

Included in the program are songs by Schumann, Ives, Poulenc, Bernstein, and Stephen Foster—along with Olivier Messiaen’s poignant and haunting “Quartet for the End of Time,” written during his time imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp.

Performers include St. Olaf assistant professor of music Francesca Anderegg (violin); St. Olaf assistant professor of music Scott Anderson (clarinet), Carleton senior lecturer in cello Thomas Rosenberg (cello); Carleton senior lecturer in voice Rick Penning (tenor) and his wife, Sandra Penning (soprano); and Carleton associate professor of music Nicola Melville (piano).

This event is sponsored by the Carleton College Department of Music, with funding from the Global Engagements Initiative. For more information, including disability accommodations, call (507) 222-4475. The Concert Hall is located on First Street, between Nevada and Winona Streets, in Northfield.
