Carleton College holds annual Honors Convocation May 27

May 22, 2016

On Friday, May 27 from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Skinner Memorial Chapel, Carleton College will hold its annual Honors Convocation, celebrating the academic accomplishment of Carleton students and faculty. This year’s Honors Convocation address will be delivered by Danielle Smogard, Carleton Class of 2013.

A cherished Carleton tradition, Honors Convocation begins and ends with a full academic procession, including emeriti faculty. Following remarks by President Steven Poskanzer, Dean of the College Beverly Nagel and Dean of Students Carolyn Livingston, the ceremony will honor students and recipients of awards and grants. Honors Convocation is free and open to the public; the event will also be videotaped and archived for online viewing at go.carleton.edu/convo/.

A political science and international relations major, Smogard was the recipient of the prestigious Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Junior Fellowship. Her time at the Endowment was spent performing research and analysis on South Asia with a senior associate. In 2015, she worked as an on-site administrator for the Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project, a school dedicated to provide a world-class education for the vulnerable and disadvantaged children of India’s “lowest caste.” In India she discovered her passion for education and is now working in Boston for Match Education—pursuing a Master's in Education and her teaching certificate by night while spending her days in a classroom of ten-year-olds.

This event is sponsored by College Communications. For more information, including disability accommodations, call (507) 222-4308. The Skinner Memorial Chapel is located on First and College Streets in Northfield.
