Carleton College Announces Faculty Promotions

The Carleton College Board of Trustees recently approved the promotion of two faculty members, effective September 1, 2012. Jackson Bryce, Marjorie Crabb Garbisch Professor of Classical Languages and the Liberal Arts, will be promoted from Professor to Professor Emeritus; and María Elena Doleman, Senior Lecturer in Spanish, will be promoted from Senior Lecturer to Senior Lecturer Emeritus.

Jackson Bryce is among Carleton’s longest-tenured professors, having joined the faculty in 1972. The Carleton College Marjorie Crabb Garbisch Professor of Classical Languages and the Liberal Arts, Bryce received his A.B. from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and his A.M. and Ph.D. in Classics from Harvard University. Bryce was the featured speaker at Carleton College’s annual Honors Convocation, held May 25. A cherished annual tradition at Carleton, Honors Convocation recognizes faculty and students for their academic accomplishments and community service.

María Elena Doleman was born in La Habana, Cuba. Her main interests are foreign language education and Cuban studies, especially Cuban American Literature. She has traveled to Spain, Central and South America and the Caribbean. In 1994 she returned to Cuba after 34 years, where she still has family and friends.
