Chinese Ink Paintings from the 16th – 21st Centuries

Homepage title

The ancient Chinese art of ink painting, transmitted from generation to generation, embodies both continuity and transformation. Curated by Kathleen M. Ryor, professor of art history at Carleton, this exhibition of over 30 exquisite paintings, spanning nearly four centuries, celebrates the beauty and rich variety of this tradition.

Sweeping landscapes and detailed flower and bird subjects are among the pleasures this exhibition offers through hanging and hand scrolls, fan paintings and works in other formats. Organized by the Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia, with works drawn from the University of Virginia and the Lijin Collections.
