[Abdourahmane Sakaly]

Abdourahmane Sakaly, originally from Senegal, moved to Bamako in 1946 and opened a studio there ten years later. According to many Bamakois, Sakaly was the most renowned photographer in the city throughout the 1960s and 1970s. The photographer was the first president of the new photographers' association, Groupement national des photographes professionels du Mali, founded in 1988, the year of his death.

Originaire du Sénégal, Abdourahmane Sakaly s’est installé à Bamako en 1946 et y a ouvert un studio dix ans plus tard. Selon les Bamakois, Sakaly était le photographe le plus réputé de la ville dans les années 60 et 70. Il a été le premier président de l’Association des photographes, le Groupement National des Photographes professionnels du Mali, fondée en 1988, l’année même de sa mort.
